Aspergers kids have a hard time with patience, and you'll often find that you can't get them to do certain things when it comes to learning - even though they're usually quite bright.
Quite often, it can be because the child doesn't feel they can do it - so they won't even try. This can make it really hard to get them motivated.
What I find is working with my 6 year old when it comes to reading is the LeapPad books. That's because he can control the whole process and work at this own speed.
The idea here is that he gets to use a special pen that will speak the words simply by pointing it at the work on the page.
He also likes to play the games that are included as well, since they're easy to follow and have lots of positive feedback, including applause from the secret audience.
There are a whole host of characters that are part of the entire LeapFrog line of learning products, and they're quite good.
But I'm actually finding that he's even requesting more books to work with !!! with his favourite TV characters as well.
Today he asked for his favourite, Finding Nemo and also one for his non-verbal brother's favourite character, Scooby-Doo.
Any time that a child is keen enough about learning to ask for more books, I'm extremely happy.
This is a great product line and I can highly recommend it.
